How can team building and rewards positively impact your business?

For Richard Branson at Virgin, team building and employee motivation was the basis upon which they had began to build their businesses. ‘’We developed our business ideas in the belief that our first priority should be the people who work for the companies, then the customers, then the shareholders. If staff are motivated then customers will be happy, and the shareholders will benefit through the company’s success.” (Richard Branson)

Susan M. Heathfield writes an engaging article about how you can get insight into your current work culture, and how you can then harness this to your benefit for greater productivity in the workplace.

“The results from your organizational culture assessment will either confirm the efficacy of the culture you have or provide the encouragement you need to change your organizational culture.”

Susan M. Heathfield, About.Com, 2009, How to Understand Your Current Culture.

The finger - pointing syndrome

Sunday, September 6th, 2009

For another great read on how you can strengthen your team, check out the Training Toolkit by Beth Blakely, Aug 02, on ZD Net Uk.

In, Teambuilding: How to establish Group Think, Blakely emphasises the importance of keeping a positive rather then negative attitude towards problems:

“Sometimes, when people from separate units or divisions are brought together to solve an existing problem, they bring an “it’s not my fault” attitude to the table that results in finger pointing. That blame game is detrimental to the team because it detracts from actually solving the problem.” Blakely.

Team building helps your company to harness key obstacles, bring them to light in a condensed period and ultimately bring your team closer together.

Are you a part of a group, or a team?

Thursday, September 3rd, 2009

The difference between a group and a team is outlined by John David, November 08, available at ArticlesBase.

“Some of the differences which can be enumerated between the terms team and the group are as follows: The strength of the team relies on the fact that the members of a team have similarities in the purpose and there is interconnectivity between the individual members and on the other hand the group is larger in number and the group’s strength could be assessed from the fact that they need to be willing to execute the commands of a leader.”

Have a think about your business environment, are you a part of a group or a team? It could be affecting your level of success.
