Cooking with The Wallabies!

Thursday, June 4th, 2009

Hidden Door were excited to have two of the Wallabies join us for a series of Italian Cooking events in Brisbane and Sydney last month.

Berrick Barnes and Brendan Cannon traded their jerseys for aprons and cooked up an Italian feast for our guests as part of their team building events.

We hope they have as much success on the field this year as they did in the kitchen!

Soccer with Sydney FC

Sunday, March 29th, 2009

Last month we kicked off with a new experience, Soccer with Sydney FC.

With the goals in place and the 5-a-side teams selected, Sydney FC stars took the teams through a series of warm-up exercises and skill sessions. Teams then took part in a fun mini tournament where their skills and fitness levels did not matter.

The day was wrapped up with a presentation to the winning team along with some fun individual awards.

Karate Board Breaking

Thursday, March 26th, 2009

A corporate team gathered at the Kirribilli Club without knowing quite what they were there for. Gathered in an open room, their only clue was a large pile of wood laid out in front them.  Certainly not wood chopping.

Then, out of nowhere, a man ran out and smashed a piece of wood breaking it cleanly in half.

This was the introduction to a Hidden Door Karate Board Breaking session. For the following two hours the team was divided up and taught valuable self defense moves by Guinness World Record Holder, Sensei Glenn, as well as having fun by lining up and hitting each other with defence pads as they attempted to utilise these newly developed defense skills.

Then, there was the big finale, where Sensei Glenn showed everyone how to break the wood using only their foot. Nervous, but daring, the teams competed against each other to see who could break the most wood and by the end of the session there was only a scattered pile of broken wood and very tired but satisfied particpants.

Hidden Door created a short/sharp Graffiti experience at the Crowne Plaza Coogee for 50 guests.

The purpose was to give participants the chance to do something creative during their 2-day Sydney conference. The group was split into 3 teams and each had to sketch their piece onto canvass while incorporating the company values into their art.

The 2-hour session resulted in 3 amazing pieces of aerosol art that now hang on the walls inide their Kent St office.

Movie Making - Warner Bros

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

With the sun shining and the breeze blowing across Lake Macquarie, Raffety’s Resort was a great location for Hidden Door to turn the tables on the Warner Bros staff and challenge them to a Tropfest style Short Film Festival.

The day started off by creating the movie sets, using aerosol art a.k.a Graffiti. Each team learnt some tips and tricks under the guidance of our professional artists and created Sci-Fi, Western and Horror scenes.

Conference rooms were transformed into film studios and employees into actors, make-up artists, script writers, cameramen and directors. With the help of professional film directors each group shot their short film with hilarious results.

“Starting the day with the “building” of the sets was perfect as everyone started to get into the genre of their short film straight away. Having the experts help with the filming was brilliant and made a huge difference to the “professionalism” of the films. It was a great day all round and the staff have not stopped talking about it yet.”
Melanie Faustmann, Warner Bros.

Art on the Beach

Sunday, September 21st, 2008

A series of original artworks, inspired by the theme ‘reselience’ are currently on sale on eBay with all proceeds going to Mission Australia ARTWORKS! project which helps disadvantaged children reach their potential through art and creativity.

Created on Hamilton Island in less than 3 hours, small teams of people worked together to develop theories of resilience and use them to create an original painting. Each team was also given the challenge of working within the guideline of a specific artistic style.

Each 1m canvass represents the vision of each team and how they integrated two objects - natural and man-made - into an outstanding piece of art within the theme of resilience.

All proceeds will go to Mission Australia ARTWORKS!

Hunter Valley Challenge

Tuesday, September 9th, 2008

Putting a little sparkle into an Entertainment Industry Leader.

Having left the Sydney Entertainment Centre bright and early bound for the Hunter Valley, the group from Arena Management, celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Sydney Entertainment Centre, were set for 2 days of fun and relaxation. First up a bit of team bonding; armed with cameras and a team mobile phone, each team set off to conquer challenges throughout the Hunter Valley.

Text messages gave them glues that led to activities including a helicopter flight, 18holes of putt putt golf, martial arts instruction and cheese and wine tasting. During each activity, the team had to complete a challenge, such as matching wine to descriptions, snapping landmarks from the helicopter and breaking planks of wood with a single karate kick!

The teams earned a reward, so we treated them to a private dinning experience at The Rock restaurant.  Pre dinner entertainment was in the form of a cooking demonstration and wine tasting conducted by renowned winemaker Usher Tinkler.

A lazy morning followed a good night sleep at Peppers Guest House, then it was off to Petersons Champagne House for lunch and a light hearted wine appreciation from owner and head winemaker Colin Peterson.  A fantastic way to celebrate a milestone and as Colin Peterson says “Life would be flat without bubbles”.
